Biographical or Historical Information
Christopher Dawson (1889-1970) was an English Catholic intellectual and author of books, articles, and scholarly monographs on the relation of religion and culture and the Christian sources for the development of western civilization. His intellectual interests were remarkably comprehensive and covered a wide range of historical periods and cultural contexts. Lecturer in the History of Culture, University College, Exeter, Gifford Lecturer, and first recipient of the Chauncey Stillman Chair of Roman Catholic Studies at Harvard University (1958-1962), Dawson was also editor of the Dublin Review.

Method of Acquisition
St. Thomas More College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada purchased the collection in 1975 from Christiana Scott (daughter of Christopher Dawson). The collection resided there until 1997 when St. Thomas More College, through Loome Theological Booksellers, offered the collection for purchase. The Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas purchased the collection through a gift of Eugene and Faye Sitzmann. Additional materials were added to the collection in 2003 from the estate of Christina Dawson Scott.

The collection was processed by Michelle Gacioch, Matthew Gerlach and Leslie Kallas, 1998-1999 and Ann Kenne in 2003.
