Catholic Aid Association of Minnesota Records

The Catholic Aid Association of Minnesota was established January 8, 1878, as Die Gegenseitige Lebensversicherungs Gesellschaft der Deutschen Roemisch-Katholischen Unterstuetzungsvereine des Staatse Minnesota (Mutual Life Insurance Association of the German Roman Catholic Benevolent Societies of Minnesota).  The original group was made up of ten individual societies from Minnesota with 485 members. The fraternal organization was organized to provide life insurance benefits for its members. It is a fraternal benefit society committed to the principles of faith, family and fellowship. It assists families in need, provides disaster relief, and sponsors programs for youth and the elderly. In the early 20^th century the name was changed to English and shortened to the Catholic Aid Association of Minnesota. The group operates today as Catholic United Financial and is one of the largest fraternal insurance companies in the United States with members in Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
