Fr. Edward Keenan Collection of Theater Programs
Scope and Contents
The collection contains items dating from 1920 to 1966 with the bulk of the programs from years 1932 to 1955. The majority of the programs are from performances seen in St. Paul and Minneapolis theaters. However, a good number are from theaters in New York City, London, and Chicago. The collection is arranged alphabetically by title of the performance. Types of performances include plays, musicals, operas, ballets, concerts, and circuses. The location where the production was performed is noted in parentheses after the title if known.

Biographical or Historical Information
Edward P. Keenan was born February 26, 1906 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He attended and graduated from the Nazareth Hall Pro-Seminary, the College of St. Thomas (1927) and the Saint Paul Seminary (1931). He received his MA in English from Columbia University in 1933 and spent the summer of 1932 studying at Cambridge University. In 1934 he began teaching in the English Department at the College of St. Thomas, a position he held until 1960. From 1954 to 1960, he was also the Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Fr. Keenan died on November 14, 1969 in St. Paul. One of his life-long passions was the theater. From his teenage years, he collected playbills and souvenir programs from the performances he attended.
