Biographical or Historical Information

Stanley Powers was born in Lake Prairie, Minnesota, on June 7, 1908.  He was educated in local schools until he entered the Saint Paul Seminary in 1929.  Powers graduated from the Saint Paul Seminary and was ordained into the priesthood in June 1937.  He was then assigned to serve at St. Aloysius parish in Olivia, Minnesota.

In August 1941, he enlisted in the Chaplain Corps of the United States Army, later transferring to the United States Air Force.  Powers was stationed at a variety of locations during his career in the Chaplain Corps including Texas, New Jersey, Florida, Japan, Hawaii, and Washington D.C.  He served as Chief Chaplain of the Pacific Air Forces and attained the rank of Colonel.  He retired from the USAF in 1963. Powers moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he lived until his death in 1982.
