Scope and Contents
The Robert P. Fogerty papers include correspondence, class notes and reports relating to his service at the College of St. Thomas, the U.S. Air Force, professional, educational and community organizations. Also in the collection are tapes and transcripts of the Memories of St. Thomas oral history program.

Biographical or Historical Information
Robert Paul Fogerty (1905-1994) was born in Elwood, Indiana and educated at the University of Notre Dame (AB 1928), College of St. Thomas (LLB 1933) and the University of Minnesota (MA 1936, Ph.D 1942). Fogerty joined the faculty of the College of St. Thomas as an Instructor in the Department of History in 1928; in 1936 he rose to the rank of Assistant Professor. From 1942 - 1946 he served in the U.S. Air Force, completing his service as Captain and Chief, Historical Division, Continental Air Forces, Washington, D.C. After his military service, Fogerty returned to the College of St. Thomas as Professor of History. Fogerty retired in 1975.
Fogerty served on a number of committees at the College of St. Thomas, including the Committee on Post-College Studies, Educational Policy, Liberal Arts and the Committee on Superior Students. He was Chairman of the Department of History and the Division of Social Sciences for many years. Fogerty was the first recipient of the Professor of the Year Award in 1961.
Fogerty was a member of a number of professional organizations, including Phi Alpha Theta, Delta Epsilon Sigma, the Upper Midwest History Conference and the Mississippi Valley History Association. He served for many years on the National Register of Historic Places State Review Board.
In his retirement Fogerty was appointed Oral Historian of the College to create an oral history of the College preparatory to the publication of a written history. The program, Memories of St. Thomas, includes taped interviews with many long-time faculty and staff of the College.
