Biographical or Historical Information

Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary opened in September 1923 on an 89-acre site on Lake Johanna.  The minor seminary operated as a four-year high school and two-year junior college for candidates for diocesan priesthood (the first six years of a twelve-year seminary program).  In 1968 the school changed its program to high school courses only when the St. John Vianney Seminary opened on the College of St. Thomas campus.  The school was closed in May 1970 because of declining enrollments.  The land and buildings were sold in November 1970 and the site is now the campus of the University of Northwestern - St. Paul.
