Biographical or Historical Information
University of St. Thomas 1989 Professor of the Year, Luann Dummer was born in Chicago October 1, 1941. She received her BA in English from the College of St. Teresa (1963), her MA from Marquette University (1965) and here Ph.D from Michigan State University (1973). She taught high school English in Wisconsin and at the University of Cincinnati before joining the College of St. Thomas’s English department in 1971. She served as chair of the English Department from 1976 – 1988. Dummer was active in the work of St. Thomas’s University Committee on Women and helped develop the ACTC (Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities) Women’s Studies program. Dr. Dummer died in Saint Paul, MN on Julty 7, 1992. Her will left a substantial bequest to the University of St. Thomas to endow a lecture each Women’s History Month and a Women’s Center which now bears her name. (The Luann Dummer Center for Women).
