Biographical or Historical Information
Msgr. James M. Lavin was born on November 12, 1918 in Aurora, MN. He came to the College of St. Thomas in 1936 as a student, graduating with a degree in English in 1940. He attended the Saint Paul Seminary and was ordained into the priesthood on August 18, 1945. After a year's service at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, Lavin returned to the College of St. Thomas in 1946 to teach religion. He served on the faculty until 1967 when he moved to Academic Counseling. In 1988, he officially retired but continued to work at the St. Thomas Alumni Association. Msgr. Lavin died on September 17, 2012 in Saint Paul, MN.
