Biographical or Historical Information

The Communications Club of the College of St. Thomas was formed in 1964 with the purpose of creating a chapter of Sigma Delta Chi (SDX), the national professional society of journalists.  The St. Thomas chapter was granted a charter in 1965 by the national organization.  With the growth of the new journalism program, the club participated in awards programs, careers programs, workshops, seminars, and news conferences. The national society’s original purposes, stated in 1909, remain: to associate journalists of talent, truth and energy, to assist the members in acquiring the noblest principles of journalism, and to advance the standards of the press by fostering a higher ethical code.
