Biographical or Historical Information
Undergraduate education courses were first offered at the College of St. Thomas beginning in 1921. The program was expanded in 1923 under the auspices of the School of Education. The Masters of Education program was started in the summer of 1950 and was open to both male and female students. The masters program had its first graduates in May 1951. The Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership had its start in the summer of 1987, with its first graduates in May 1990. The program currently offers over fifty programs in four departments (Teacher Education; Special Education & Gifted Education; Organization Learning & Development; Leadership, Policy & Administration).
With the renaming of the institution to the University of St. Thomas in 1990, the School of Education was organized as a component under a newly formed Graduate School of Education, Professional Psychology and Social Work. In 1996, the School was reorganized as a separate School of Education. In 2008, the College of Applied Professional Studies (CAPS) was created with the School of Education and the Graduate Program of Professional Psychology as its components. In 2012, CAPS was was renamed the College of Education, Leadership and Counseling.

The records in this were transferred to the University Archives in several accessions between 1980 and 2008.

The collection was processed in 2008 by Mary Lou Schmidt. Additional material was added to the collection in December 2016.
