Biographical or Historical Information
The Center for Irish Studies was established at the University of St. Thomas in 1996. The goal of the Center is to advance teaching and scholarship in Irish Studies for students, faculty, and friends of the university through publications, instruction, and public programs; enrich the international dimensions of education at St. Thomas; and affirm the many historic and contemporary bonds between the university, Ireland, and the Irish-American community. Since 1997, the Center for Irish Studies has published New Hibernia Review, a multidisciplinary journal of Irish Studies. It is also the sponsor of the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry which honors Irish poets.
