Biographical or Historical Information

Franz Hermann Mueller was born on May 2, 1900 in Berlin-Charlottenburge, Germany.  He studied at the University of Berlin and the Berlin School of Commerce receiving the Diplom-Kaufman (Masters in Business Administration) in 1922.

From 1923 - 1925, Mueller studied at the University of Cologne, earning his Ph.D. in Social Science in 1925.  He served as Assistant Director for Research in the Social Sciences at the University of Cologne from 1928 until he was fired by the Nazis in 1934.

Mueller received several offers for academic appointments outside of Germany after this, finally accepting a professorship at St. Louis University in 1935.  In 1940, he accepted a position as Professor of Economics at the College of St. Thomas.  Mueller assumed chairmanship of the Economics Department in 1942, a position he held until 1962.

He retired from teaching in 1968 and was named an Emeritus Professor.  In 1981, he received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of St. Thomas.  He died on October 21, 1994.

The collection was given to the Department of Special Collections in 1994 - 1995 by Professor Mueller's family.

Processing Information

The collection was proceessed in 1995 and 2000 by Lynn Randazzo.  Additions were made to the collection 2003 and 2004.
