Biographical or Historical Information

Fred J. Taylor was born on June 2, 1874 in Kidderminster, England.  He emigrated to Minnesota in 1882 with his family, settling in St. Paul.  He attended the College of St. Thomas, completing the six year program of study in 1895.  After studying philosophy at the Saint Paul Seminary and teaching in Dakota and Ramsey County Schools, Taylor returned to the College as a member of the faculty, first teaching at the St. Thomas Military Academy and, beginning in 1920, as a full-time professor of mathematics at the College of St. Thomas.  With the exception of the 1923-24 school year, he continued in this position until his retirement in 1961 at the age of 87.
