Biographical or Historical Information
The University Committee on Women was created in 1990 in response to issues raised by the 1988/89 Climate Survey sponsored by the College of St. Thomas Board of Trustees. The committee's initial charge was to help identify issues of concern to women on campus and submit suggestions for improvements. Early initiatives of the group included organizing Women's History Month, assisting with the establishment of the Women's Center in 1993 and sponsoring talks on gender issues. The name of the group was changed to the University Advocates for Women and Equity in 2007 to better reflect the mission of the group.
