Scope and Contents
The Navy V-5 Program collection includes a scrapbook maintained by Ruby Turtness and correspondence written to her by members of the College of St. Thomas V-5 program. The collection also includes photographs taken by a member of the V-5 program and material relating to the reunion of V-5 program members.

Biographical or Historical Information
The College of St. Thomas managed a Navy V-5 (basic flight training) program based out of the Albert Lea, MN airport from July 1942 – August 1944. The program grew out of a Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA) program which prior to the outbreak of WWII was operated out of Wold Field in Minneapolis. John Madigan, a College of St. Thomas physics professor, managed the program.
