Scope and Contents
The Audio-Visual Collection contains St. Thomas produced or commissioned audio, film, and video materials. The collection contains a large collection of athletic game films as well as copies of educational shows produced to be broadcast on Minnesota Public Television.
The collection also includes film and audio tape documenting significant events in the history of the school including: the inauguration of Fr. Flynn and Fr. Shannon as president of the College of St. Thomas and the dedication of the O'Shaughnessy Library. Early views of the campus can be seen in a 1924 film entitled "A Day at St. Thomas" as well as shorter films of the Corp of Cadets which were filmed in the 1930s.
The audio tape collection includes copies of important talks and speeches given at the school. Featured speakers include famous Minnesotans like Eugene McCarthy, Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale. It also includes recordings of St. Thomas musical groups including the "Tom Cats."
